Learn to Embrace the Fear - For it May Lead You to Your Destiny

There is a reason people struggle to muster up the courage to follow their passion - it is easily one of the most terrifying things you can do to your life. You fill it with uncertainty, sleepless nights, exhaustion, and sometime bone-crushing, gut-wrenching fear. Oh and because it gives you amazing moments when these frighting times hit you have to paste a smile on your face and fight through it. And to think we hanker for, run after and SEARCH for the thing that will make us feel this way. Yeash.

I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting the amazing Komal Minhas at the Global Shapers Community Annual Curators Meeting last month and this post is inspired by her beautiful piece in HuffPost Canada - "Why Fear Is Our North Star On The Path To Success". And she nailed it!

"What I've come to notice is that our deepest moments of transformation are always incredibly uncomfortable. This is because we are unleashing a part of ourselves that has been waiting to shine for so long. This has been a profound truth in my life the past few months"

Yes. Yes. YES.

I guess its like they said "Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it". Sure following your dreams means its always going to be a long shot. Yes you find yourself lying awake nights, your gut wrenched in fear wondering if you made the right shot. You will lose people you care about, realize you have qualities that you may not necessarily like about yourself and spend time just being really, really scared.

Don't fight it. Don't rail against it. Don't think that you are the only person who feels this way chasing their passion and dream and that the rest of us are blissfully happy. Know that this is what keeps your feet firmly on the ground when your soul is in flight. Know that this is the test that separates the champions from the rest. Know that these tough times will shape and polish you into what will be the best possible version of yourself.

To quote Komal again "So to the fear that is bubbling inside me, I say thank you - thank you for the reminder that what lies ahead is going to change everything in the most excellent ways possible. Also, thank you for completely unhinging the control freak in me. I don't know what's coming next, and that is okay"

So if you are going to chase those dreams, be ready. Be ready to fly and come crashing down. Gird your loins and steel your gut - the ride will be anything but smooth. But by gosh it will be incredible - more incredible that you can ever imagine!

"I owned every second
That this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived"

- 'I Lived' (One Republic)
